What Support is available for your child generally?

Across England and Wales there will be a wide variety in what is available for children, however these are some of the places to look to for support:

Young Carers

You may not think of your child as a carer but many children will have some form of a caring role if there is an ill or disabled family member, often the care can be more about the emotional strain the child is under than practical care they are giving. ‘Young Carers’ is run by the Princess Royal Trust, they have information on-line here, at youngcarers.net, (including information for parents) and in many areas have ‘young carers’ groups. The groups are an excellent way for young children to have a break from daily life. They will all be different but some have counsellors and homework help.

School

Many schools have a good support network for children where there may be special circumstances at home (most schools have a pastoral worker). If teachers know that there is something the child might struggle with they can try and help.

Other

It is worth contacting your local RCA, carers centre or council to find out more about support available.
